The public has many misconceptions about agriculture. Due to the lack of education about where food comes from, what happens on a farm, and other agricultural ideals rumors spread quickly and last for years. One of the more common misconceptions is that big corporations own most farms. Even though the public believes that all farms are owned by big corporations this is not true. Family farms make up 99% of all US farms. Also, 90% of all US farms are actually small farms. Large family farms only make up 3% of all farms. These small family farms do sell to large organizations that process the livestock or put the livestock onto a feedlot to gain weight before they need to be harvested.
